Well, Wikipedia tells this:

A console application is a computer program designed to be used via a text-only computer interface, such as a text terminal, the command-line interface of some operating systems (Unix, DOS,[1] etc.) or the text-based interface included with most graphical user interface (GUI) operating systems, such as the Windows Console in Microsoft Windows,[2] the Terminal in macOS, and xterm in Unix.

Do we have such things in the FM environment? Is this a left-over from the Unix times of FM?

I thought it was referring to the FrameMaker Console window where messages are written out and saying that ESTK can't send messages to that console window. Not a scripter, though, and I'm moderately certain that several of Rick's scripts do just that. However, I don't know if they were written in ESTK or using Visual Studio/more or less javascript.
