What is the difference between choosing English International or North America at install time
Hi all,
When you install FrameMaker (2019,2020,2022) the version of English can be one of several, however I am particularly interested in North America (aka USEnglish) or International (aka UKEnglish). These options are also available if FrameMaker is packaged in the Adobe Admin Console, as shown below.

The Use OS Locale, presumably overides this, unfortunately clicking the 'i' does nothing, so I can only guess.
The choice, after a both a manual and a packaged installation seems to be reflected in two places:
- maker, ini - Language=UKEnglish under ;Frame] (this setting is not in the latest ini settings PDF); or
- the registry - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\FrameMaker\17\Language=en_GB
So the questions are:
- What is the effect of this choice, or at least what is different between the two. For example if I have the word 'realise' in text and run a spell check, I would expect it to pick this up if the language was International and vice a versa for 'realise' if the language was North America. This of course is not the case and both spellings happily pass the checker.
- Is it just in the interface, for example the spellings in alerts?
- Given there are two places the setting appears, is it sufficient to change it, if for some reason I want to switch, in the registry only?
Thanks 🙂
Jon
