Question

When testing Xrefs, is there a hot key for returning to the previous view?

There used to be a hot key, Esc v P I believe, that would return the user to the page containing the Xref. When testing Xrefs, it is most inconvenient to have to hunt back to the point of origin. In Reader, this ability is established with the "Previous View" icon on the tool bar. Isn't there something of the sort in unstructured FM?

    Hi Don:

I actually addressed this elsewhere because I was reading today's post sequentially. I tested the shortcut in Fm 2015 and goes back to the page it was on before you follow a hyperlink in the same document. I tested it in Fm 2017 and it did... nothing.

I thought that the suggestion on the other thread was a good one so I'll post the link back to it and to my full response here:

    Is there a "Back" button?

I also saw your question about adding a back button via Insert > Hyperlinks > Jump Back. This will work in 2017 but keep in mind that it also limited to jumping back to a link in the same file.

    Barb,

What’s curious is that Esc v P shows up as a command in the list brought up by F7. One must type “pre” to bring it to the top of the list, then hitting the enter key brings the viewer back to the original page, only within the same file, though. However, when a link brings the viewer to another file, Ctrl Tab functions properly, jumping one back to the file of origin.

Maybe I’ll write the Tech Support guys on this issue. An update should be able to do the trick, no?

Meanwhile, it’s F7 “pre” Enter. Clumsy, but gets me there.

Yes, the next step is let the Fm team know about the non-functioning shortcut via the Tracker link in my  other post, so that they are aware of the issue.
