Where is the main dictionary of FM stored?

This seems like a very basic issue but I could not find any infos about it. I assume the main dictionary is stored as a language-specific file at some location. I would like to remove unneeded terms; I don't know about other languages but the German dictionary contains some very outdated words as well as verbosity unrelated to our industry sector.

I have checked the folder \users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Linguistics but this is empty.

Which version of FM? The location has been moved around a bit. Also, it (version) depends upon whether the Hunspell or Franklin-Proximity dictionaries are used. The Franklin-Proximity are binary encoded, so you couldn't modify them anyway.

For the Hunspell, there are at least three versions for German, so first check if you are using the most modern one (2006 vs 1996 vs 1901). The Hunspell dictionaries are text files, so these can be edited.

The dictionaries are located in the \fminit\Linguistics folder of your FM installation.

Note: any errors (corruption) in the Linguistics files will cause FM to crash on startup. Make certain that you have the original files backed up if you do try to make any changes.

Hi Arnis, thanks for the help. I am using FM12 and the dictionary is set to Hunspell. So e.g. for the reformed German orthography you edit the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker12\fminit\Linguistics\7.0\Providers\Plugins2\AdobeHunspellPlugin\Dictionaries\de_DE\2006\de_DE.dic. The changes become active after FrameMaker is restarted.
