Why does email hypertext in PDF open web browser window in addition to email client?

Using FrameMaker 10, I created the following hypertext: message URL mailto:xyz@abc.com. I then printed to PDF. When I click the link in the PDF it opens an email client message window (what I want) but also opens a web browser window with mailto:xyz@abc.com in the address bar (what I don't want). Why would it open both? I don't know if this is a Frame issue (more likely), an Acrobat issue (less likely), or a browser issue (not likely). I hope I'm just missing something easy here.

On Windows, check Control Panel > Internet > Programs > Internet Programs

and make sure your mail client is configured to handle

Protocols:

MAILTO

Check Acrobat Reader: Edit > Preferences > Sendmail

(*) System Mail

Pdf to email has been working fine for years, then something changed. It took a while to figure this out but the default for the MAILTO got unchecked, probably by some other program. It is easy to fix if you look in the right place. The right place is illustrated here below:

On Windows, check Control Panel > Internet > Programs > Internet Programs

and make sure your mail client is configured to handle

Protocols:

MAILTO

Are you sure you don't have two HT markers essentially on top of each other?

Type wide letter and a right-arrow a few times to separate co-located anchor glyphs.

If not, my suspicion is that the one HT you are generating is firing up the browser, and the browser is firing up the email client. That's not a Frame or Adobe issue.

Thanks for the quick response. I have several lines of contact info in a user guide. The first five lines have no HT markers. Line 6 has an HT marker for an email address. Line 7 has an HT marker for a website. So there are no HT markers that close together...they are on separate lines. So I guess I'll look at the web browser.
