Question

why isn't FM seeing my art files

I am working with FM 11 unstructured version. Lately FM is not recognizing art files. I know they are in my ART folder because I show them in another explorer window when I do a search. Yet when I try to import them into my FM chapter, they don't show up (File > Import > File). So if I copy and paste into the ART folder (causing two files with the exact same name) FM will recognize one of the art files (still not see that two copies are there. This is making my already very large ART folder even bigger. And when I need to edit the art, I don't know which file to use (I've been wrong more than I've been right on guessing). Has anyone seen this? I believe the problems started about a month ago when FM was crashing almost every day. I have been doing a MIF wash at least 4-6 times this month. I'm not sure if that is a contributing factor. Thanks.

The Windows explorer won't let you have two files with the exact same name in any folder.

How are you importing the files into FM - reference or copy? The Insets pod (or the Poperties panel for a specific graphic) will give you the filename of the inserted graphic, IF it has been imported by reference.

I am importing by reference. Here is a picture of my duplicate files. The big blue cross shows it has been added to our version control tool.

I’d put my money on something changing in your Version Control system – your screenshot doesn’t really reveal the full details of the filenames or location. If this worked before, what’s changed?

What format are these files in?

The original and copy files are in PNG. I don't change anything with the copy, not even the extension. It's all very curious.

Can you show a sceen capture of the Explorer folder listing (showing all file details) of the duplicate PNG files?
