Question

Will Framemaker 7.0 run on Windows 8 (64 bit)?

I know it's a dinosaur, but Framemaker 7 still suits my purposes, as long, of course, as it will run on the latest operating system. According to the Windows 8 Compatibility Center, it's expected that FM 7 will run on Windows 8, but there's no confirmation there from the preview community. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks.

On my Win-7 X64 system I have installed all FM versions down to 6 and i can use them and create PDFs with both methods (save as PDF, print to PS and distill). Of course I do not make heavy use of the old versions (below 10) anymore, so there may be problems luring somewhere. I have FM-4 running in a vertual XP machine also...

You are almost certainly going to need a 32-bit XP virtual machine for that, XP Compatibility Mode (XPM).

Do any versions of Windows 8 still support XPM?

On Win7/64, you have to have Ultimate, Professional or Enterprise for XPM. Home Premium or less won't do. Server won't do either, for other reasons.

FM7 was never supported in any 64-bit Windows. XPM is 32-bit.

Do not install the Acrobat that came with FM7.

Do you have a Win8 compatible Acrobat X or XI for PDF generation?

Thanks for your reply. I have been running FM7 on Win7/32 Professional without using the compatibility mode. Now I am wondering if anyone has had success using FM7 on Win7/64 (with or without compatibility mode), AND if anyone has the Windows 8 Preview and can advise whether or not FM7 might work.

I do have Acrobat X Pro.

Thanks.
