can't get lock transparency to work

Does anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Can you describe what is happening for you with Lock Transparency turned on.

For me I can continue to work on the layer but only within items already drawn.

It's also worth noting that Lock Transparency only appears to be available on Pixel and Live brushes, not Vectors.
