Question

Fresco starts lagging over time

Hello

Just bought a brand new surface pro 8 and was super excited to finally be able to use Fresco... But the app quickly starts lagging.

I have a Surface pro 8 with 256gb SSD (gbGB of free space remaining) and 16gb of RAM. Fresco is fluid for 30 to 60 minutes and starts to get supper laggy (strokes appear after one second, chaning tool takes ages,...).

I'm doing only small drawings (canvas size = screen resolution), with only pixel tools (no vector), and 2-3 layers at most. I have a high speed internet connection (although really, this shouldn't be needed at all for any painting app). Seriously, nothing I do is supposed to get the app to lag so much (nothing similar happens when using photoshop).

This basically makes the app unusable for me. It's impossible to quickly switch between picking colors and using the brush for blending, or change brush size/settings regularly.

Is the Adobe team working on some fix?

Is it a file size issue do you think?
Or is it happening based on how long you've been using the app for in a sitting.
I notice you said using for 30 minutes.
I'm kind of wondering if the file size increasing is also contributing to the lag.

Hi. I am having the same issue. I started getting really annoyed and thought that the surface pro was just terrible then i opened photoshop and it was butter smooth and realised the problem was fresco. Weird because photoshop seems like it would be the more memory intensive software.

same here with laptop, it's lagging and very frustating (I also created 2 posts, since I suspect that in my case adobe fresco it's using the wrong GPU, and that might cause my problem but for some reason, the  admin markes my posts into SPAM twice, without any explanation)

but yeah, I have the same problem, a lot of lag 😞

Hello @jaun2406913646sg@Marcelo D. Viana Neto,

Sorry to hear about this experience and for the late response. I hope the problem is resolved by now. If not, kindly try updating Fresco to the latest version (3.7.0) and share your observations with us.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Same here. This has been reported for at least a year and we have heard exactly ZERO from Adobe... It makes the product unusable in a professional capacity on Windows.

Same happening here, just with surface pro 5 and with several layers. Daughter is doing some cloth scetching, and lag really starts to take any usability off after a while. Layers she uses are not full of data, usually just one cloth in one layer. And just normal pencils, not vectors or fluid ones.
Our Sp 5 should have enough juice for that, but i haven' t really tested fresco with anything else. Yet I thought that our machine is getting old, but now reading people getting these same problems... Maybe i test it with my pc, with rtx3090 etc inside. If it works with it, still theres a problem, cause surface with pen is much more preferred for the task.

hope we are getting something what somehow helps with this pretty much annoying feature.

What kind of brush are ou using and how big is it? Because that can definitely put a lag on it

Hi, thanks for your quick reply!

I am using standard pixel brushes, typically :

  • "canvas brush" from the "painting" menu
  • "pencil" from the "sketching" menu"
  • some basic round brushes
  • sometimes "mixer brushes"
  • I an NOT using the "live brushes" or vector layers

Brush sizes are usually between 10 to 150 pixels. Of course if I use a really large brush (like 2000 pixels) I see a lag, but this disappears as soon as I go back to smaller brushes sizes.

Canvas size is 2880 x 920 pixels

As I said :

  • it is not lagging from start. I can use the app for 30 minutes or so before seeing the lag appear and getting worse and worse with time.
  • I am using similar tools/layers/canvas size in photoshop and never had such issue.
