Question

Fresco Vector layers don't hold in Photoshop

I have been using Fresco since it was released. It has been life-changing. But one need I've found an issue with from its beginning is that when I use vector brushes on a layer - and then bring that Fresco PSDC into Photoshop, the vector layers do not hold up if I resize the group they are in or Duplicate the layers into another PSD. I've given up and either don't use vector brushes in my Fresco art, or the first thing I do when I open it in Photoshop is to Rasterize the vector layers. Can this be addressed?

Hi @tmsrDD,

I appreciate your feedback and the experience you've had using Adobe Fresco for your creative work. It's great to hear that Fresco has been life-changing for you.

Regarding the issue you've encountered with vector layers in Fresco not holding up when you bring the PSDC file into Photoshop, I understand your frustration. However, it's important to note that this behavior is due to the fundamental differences in how vector and raster images are modeled and handled in these two applications.

Adobe Fresco is designed to work with both vector & pixel brushes, and it excels in creating both types of artwork. On the other hand, Photoshop primarily operates with raster-based images. When you bring a Fresco PSDC file into Photoshop, the vector layers may not maintain their properties because Photoshop processes them as raster layers.

As of now, addressing this issue to make vector layers seamlessly transferable between Fresco and Photoshop is technically complex and challenging due to these underlying differences. While this may be a limitation, I hope this explanation helps clarify the situation.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. We appreciate your valuable feedback as it helps us improve our products and services.

Hello, Anshul. Thank you for this prompt and thorough response!
I have been using Photoshop since 1.0. Fresco is new (and amazing) in my world. My use of what I create in Fresco is most times joined by features only available in Photoshop, so I want to / need to work with the Fresco file in both worlds. That said, I understand your explanation that the coding to make Photoshop work with vectors. But I feel it should be on the "list" of things to do, since Fresco files come under the .PSD umbrella. Yes? One can hope...

Thank you for your understanding and feedback. While it's great to hope for such integration, the differences in imaging models make it challenging. However, I would suggest opening the Fresco file in Illustrator and then importing it into PSD with smart objects can be a workaround. I know it is a one-way journey, but it can come in handy. Please feel free to share any more thoughts or ideas you may have, as user feedback is crucial for our ongoing improvements. We appreciate your valuable input.
