Issue with imported images

When I import images (for painting reference) the image will often change orientation within its bounds. For example it will rotate 90 degrees but keep its original dimensions and thus become distorted. Anyone else having this issue?

Which device are you working on? I'm on an iPad and the import option within a project seems to be creating an appropriately resized image.
