Question: How to delete intersecting lines without trimmer

Hey guys, I’m trying to find out how to delete intersecting lines when doing lettering. Trim tool deletes entire segments. You also cannot erase inside like you can paint inside. Only way I found is using the lasso and making it as straight as possible but that's not professional. 
Anything you can recommend? It would be amazing if Adobe allows the trim tool to delete lines in between lines lol, or so you can erase inside
