Question

100% CPU usage while rendering 3D Elements despite RTX3060

Dear,

when i try to apply changes to 3D elements or just try rendering them, my CPU goes up to 100%, while my GPU stays between 0 and 5%. Ive got a RTX3060 and Ryzen 7 5800x3D, so this is really confusing for me.

The CPU usage causes my entire system to lag and Illustrator also just gets stuck and crashes after a few minutes.

Can anyone assist me?

Thanks

Do you have Real Time Drawing and Editing enabled? The setting is in Preferences under the Performance tab and is turned on by default. The setting has to be disabled to get high quality, ray-traced renders of 3D objects. Basic renders of 3D objects appear to utlize the CPU much more (and without ray-tracing).

So i deactivated this setting now. And yes, when i modfiy a 3D element with ray-tracing, it works a lot faster.

But the process is still pretty CPU dependent.

I tried to change the resolution of the rendering by increasing the ppi. Still same issue, my system was entirely stuck for a few seconds:

Same thing when i adjust the quality preset of the 3D element to high. After changing the preset and/or the ppi, modifying the element becomes impossible, still 0% GPU usage.

I'm still trying to understand why NVidia's GeForce Experience app just refuses to "see" Adobe Illustrator (or even Photoshop for that matter). That could be one reason why the GPU is not being utilized more heavily. Most functions in vector-drawing applications are going to be CPU-dependent. But certain features, such as Animated Zoom, require a compatible GPU. Some kind of disconnect exists between NVidia's applications, their RTX drivers and Adobe's applications.

NVidia is supposed to be rolling a new "NVidia app" to replace the GeForce Experience app and NVidia Control Panel. I wonder if the new app will make any difference.

Is your graphic card listed in Preferences > Performace?
