I understand the preview in the PDF import dialog can look pixelated. Illustrator uses a low-resolution thumbnail there to speed up loading, but this doesn't affect the actual quality of the file. Once you open the PDF page, it should appear in full resolution in the document window. Could you confirm if the file looks fine after opening? If I've misunderstood anything, please let me know.
