3D and Materials (inflate) no longer working due to not enough ram. Was fine before.

Hi i've been happily playing with the inflate function in 3D and materials and now it keeps telling me there is not enough available ram. Was fine before. Have updated illustrator, closed all other apps. Not sure what the problem is? Can anyone help? Thanks.
