Does anyone have a recommendation for an image trace utility that is better and more accurate than the one that comes with Illustrator?

What kind of templates are you going to trace automatically? Are there some specific and repeating patterns? Can you perhaps provide examples?

What operating system are you using?

    Hi Kurt.

Any signs of winter there (none here)?

    Jay,

If you (still) have CS5 (or earlier), you may try the Live Trace there (again); some have even stayed with a pre CS6 version like CS5 because the pre Image Trace (Live Trace) quality is crucial for them.

Thanks, Jacob. I no longer have CS5 or earlier.

From a user point of view it is frustrating and makes no sense. I guess only Adobe staff can answer why they would degrade a feature rather than improve it.

    Jay,

I no longer have CS5 or earlier.

If you have a licence (you can see it here if registered), under My Products, using your (then) Adobe ID here,

    https://accounts.adobe.com/products

    you can download/update again.

You should be able to (re)download from here (ignore the CS6 in this case):

Note: If you have the CS2 Premium Suite version, you will have to download the Standard, and then download Acrobat and GoLive separately under their own replacement serial numbers.

GoLive 9 can be downloaded with the relevant link i the first post by Herbert here:
