a3D sphere in illustrator

Is it possible to make in Illustrator, a sphere like this, but instead of asterisks, having numbers running round it?

Yep. You need to make your numbers into a symbol (drag the text field to the symbols panel). Create a sphere using Effect > 3D > Revolve on a semicircle, then use the Map Art options to add the symbol:
