Here's our first ACP Illustrator mentor story:

    ACP :Myra Ferguson

    Adobe Illustrator user :  charless82800185

Issue : Envelope distort for a business card

Instead of using the negative space made by the diamonds, use the pen tool to draw a diamond shape over your name in a layer above the text. You can set the stroke to black and the fill to none. Before distorting, it looks better if you decrease the leading (the space between lines of text). Click on Character to set the font size to 13 and the leading to 10. Select the diamond and shift select your name. Go to Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object. If you want to give it a little space between the text and the triangles, select the text with the Selection Tool and Shift + Alt + drag (Shift + Option + drag) to scale it down proportionally while keeping it centered.

Here are the steps to reproduce what our mentee wanted to make with his business card in Illustrator

    BEFORE

    AFTER

Solution : Myra described the difference between making selections with the Selection Tool and the Direct Selection tool and between destructive and non-destructive effects. She showed him the Appearance panel and how to hide, edit, and delete effects. She also gave him resources where he could get more Adobe-related info including the Forums, Adobe User Groups, Adobe MAX, other Creative Cloud eventsand some blogs about Adobe topics - http://blogs.adobe.com

    Hey Tricia,

It's a great opportunity for creative individuals to have industry experts as their mentor and not only get help to reach their goals but also get inspired during the process. Let's get this going and have more such amazing stories.

    Best,

    Om
