Actions in Illustrator reset

I work a lot with importing EAN codes in Indesign.

For a specific purpose, I often need a EAN code, and a duplicate of it, with only the bars.

In order to easily do this, I had this Action programmed in Illustrator that would cut off the numbers.

It worked wonderfully!

But recently, I have had to re-program the action a few times, at it was suddenly buggy.

Now, since yesterday, it seems that I have to re-program the action every time I fire up Illustrator.

The action I programmed was:

* Add a rectangle over the numbers and slightly over the bars

* Use pathfinder to combine them all

* Add another rectangle over the earlier one

* Use pathfinder to cut the new rectangle from the earlier one and the bars

* Set color

* Save

The action is still in Illustrator, but it no longer has any specifics. So when it gets to the action of adding the rectangle, it doesn't know how big or where to put it.

This was never a problem before. What happened?

I'm running Mac OS Sierra, version 10.12.6.

Adobe Illustrator CC 23.0.1

I would welcome any advice. Thanks in advance!

(please note, this is my first time asking a question here, I'm not sure what information to provide)

Correct answer Mike Sofa

I'm still testing this, but my guess is the problem is:

Adobe Illustrator CC 23.0.1

I am discovering that actions are now losing both "Set work path" commands and the destinations for "Save as..." commands after restarts.

This reminds of the bug that made actions forget script steps after restarts that was the topic of complaints for so long here. It only took them about a decade to fix that one. Let's hope they fix it quicker this time.

One workaround is to save your action set(s), delete them before quitting, and then re-load them after restarting.

Thank you. I was hoping for a better solution, but I guess it's just a bug then. Can't do much about it from this end, I suppose.

Your workaround works, in any case, so for now, I'm saved. Thank you so much!
