Add/remove anchor point tool is very difficult to use, can i make it "snap" more ?

When I use the add/remove anchor point tool it misses the stroke and gives me an error message 3 or 4 times before I can get it in the right place, it's very frustrating. Is there a way to increase it's "snap" to the stroke I am pointing it towards similar to the snap of aligning objects? I am having to zoom in and out to get it to work which is a pain when I am adding multiple points.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Craig,

Look at: Preferences>Selection & Anchor Display

Also, try using the Curvature Tool, easy to add/remove anchor points

How to draw with the Pen, Curvature, or Pencil tool in Illustrator

Many thanks MJ.

I thought I must be missing something obvious in the preferences. I whacked it all the way up to 20 and now it hits the stroke every time.

Also having a look at the curvature tool now (altho I still like the organic nature of editing paths with the pencil)

Thanks again
