Add Strokes to Placed Images as "Effects" does not work?

I would like to get confirmation that this is the "expected behavior" and not something I'm not doing right...

Suppose I want to get a 5pts black outline smack on the edge of a placed image, what is my best course of action?

Hate the idea that the engineers didn't extend the notion of "Adding Strokes" to bitmap images through the Appearance panel... Since it seems so "logical" and "natural" and "simple"... ?

Just tried it now to no avail.

So I guess, for now, the answer is "no"?

Correct answer Kurt Gold

After applying a new stroke to the image in the Appearance palette, you can add the Effect menu > Convert to Shape > Rectangle effect with your desired settings. Save this as a graphic style if you want to use it later with a single click.

Another way is to select the image, go to Object menu > Clipping Mask > Make and give the clipping path the desired stroke attributes.

Kurt,

I just tried Converting the newly add Stroke to a rectangle and I must say I'm satisfied 🙂

Still, Adobe is not off the hook 😉

Add a stroke via the appearance panel and then apply the effect Outline object to that stroke.

Hi Monika,

Your solution works too! But I must say I like Kurt's suggestion better... XX

I assume you're working on a print document. Which application are you using to create your document? InDesign? Illustrator? Image files on their own are not going to have any strokes unless they're "baked" into the image via Photoshop.

This probably needs to be moved to a more appropriate place than the Adobe Fonts forum (such as Illustrator, InDesign or even Photoshop).

I was so sure I was posting on the Illustrator Forum!!! Silly me!
I'll move my post -- thanks!
