Question

Adding an offset path/stroke to a 3d object

I have created a simple 3D image of a pair of dice in Illustrator. I want to add a white outline around both objects so I can make it look like a sticker. I tried expanding the appearance and adding a stroke but that didn't work. Any suggestions would be helpful!

3D & materials?

In that case: you do not need to expand them.

Group them

In the appearance panel add a new stroke to the group

Apply Effect > Path > Outline object to that stroke

Move the stroke behind the Contents in the Appearance panel.

For 3D Classic:

Group them

Add a new stroke to the group

Move the stroke below the Contents.

Apply Effect > Pathfinder > Add to the stroke

That doesn't seem to work for me unfortunately. When I apply the stroke, it applies to both objects, not the group. Also when I apply an outline object, the stroke gets very jagged in certain spots.
