Question

Adding depth lines to text in Illustrator

Is there an easy way to add depth/reflective lines on top of and beside text? I'm not sure what it's called.  It's not a shadow and it's not 3D depth. It's the lighter red lines layered on top of the letter and the dark blue/black lines like a shadow to the right of the letter in the attached picture. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Appearance panel

Effect > Distort and transform > Transform

Move below the Characters entry in the Appearance panel

Set ocaity to 0 for the middle fill

Turn on knockout group for the object

Thank you!  I'll give that a shot.

You're welcome!

You might experiment a little with the technique, such as add some scaling to the invisible copy.
