Question

Addresses & phone numbers not copying/pasting

I just updated to version 29.8.3 this morning and I'm already running into issues. I'm designing an ad for a client based on information on their Facebook page, so I copied and pasted the information so I didn't have to go back and forth between screens. Everything involving contact information showed up with an X in a box. I tried pasting it into Text Edit, even converting it to plain text, and the issue persists. What is up with this???

Hi @Holton Recorder,

Thanks for sharing these details. I completely understand how frustrating that must be. Could you please confirm which operating system you're using? In the meantime, try copying the same text into another Adobe app like Photoshop or InDesign to see if the contact information appears correctly there, this will help confirm if the issue is specific to Illustrator.

Also, please check if changing the font to something standard like Arial displays the pasted text correctly. You can also try pasting the text using Edit > Paste Without Formatting and see if that makes a difference.

If the issue still occurs, please share a short screen recording of your copy-paste process, so I can look into it further.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

I'm using MacOS Monterey. Creative Cloud says version 30 is incompatible but it doesn't say 29.8.3 is. I tried the same exact process in Photoshop and InDesign and it does the exact same thing. I guess I'll just revert to a previous version since it seems whenever I update these programs some new issue comes out of the woodwork. I have no way to take a video to show what I'm doing. It's literally me selecting text from a post on Facebook, then doing Edit Copy, then Edit Paste. Whether it's going into the Adobe programs or a text editing file and then into Adobe, this is what it does:

Search for a Unicode Letter Normalizer online and use it to convert the text back.

Paste it into a text editor first and from there copy it again and paste into Illustrator.

Nobody knows how Facebook formats text.

I did that. I said in my original post that I pasted it into a text editor, then I copied it from there and pasted it into Illustrator and it still happens.
