adjust image slightly to square up edges/corners

Hello,

I have selected an image that I want to make square (the inside of a Persian rug for a design) so that I may apply it to another image seamlessly.  There is dead space between the edges I am fine with losing but I need the edges to be square to fit it in the next image.  I have created a clipping mask using the pen tool, how can I manipulate the image from this point to make it square?  Am I better off using photoshop for this function?

Thank you,

Sampson Hill

Perhaps I'm not explaining my issue clearly.  The area in the source image that I'm attempting to isolate is not a perfect rectangle, after I select it through cropping or applying a clipping mask I'm hoping to straighten those new edges into a rectangle, manipulating the image itself (not the clipping mask).  Using a rectangular clipping mask or a crop tool leaves me with parts of the image I do not want, or I'm removing parts that I do want.  This functionality might not exist in illustrator, but I was hoping someone might know a trick to do this.

I do not want the red are near the edge of the clipping mask but I do want the olive area.  Its a needle that cannot be threaded using a rectangular clipping mask or crop tool.  I essentially need to manipulate the image behind the clipping mask to match a rectangular shape.  I was hoping that there was a tool that would use a formula to manipulate the image automatically to fill a rectangular space.  I'm hoping for a solution involving a formula (some command in illustrator) to decrease the overall warping of the image, if I do this by hand there are more likely to be many distortions.  If this is not an obscure functionality within illustrator that is okay with me, I will move over to photoshop.

    Thank you!

And there you see the issue with just showing this tiny portion of your image. Nobdy understand your question.

No, you can't edit it with a formula. Try Photoshop.

    Sampson,

Others will most likely suggest a screenshot or something.

As I (mis)understand it, if the deviation from a rectangle/square is slight (you say adjust image slightly to square up edges/corners), you may create a rectangle/square of the desired size/proportions (on top in the stacking order), then select that along with the Clipping Mask containing the image (which is embedded, if a raster image), and then Object>Envelope Distort>Make with top object, and see whether it is satisfactory, bearable, or useless. If useless, I would also suggest a screenshot or something.

When I adjust the pen tool lines I've made with my clipping mask all I do is reveal more of the image.  My desire is to manipulate the image itself (which is why I'm inclined to switch over to photoshop) to shift the edge of the image itself over.  My hope is that there is some functionality within Illustrator to do this, I'm a fairly computer savy guy but when it comes to illustrator I know that there are tons and tons of tricks that I don't know how to do and being self taught some of those things are fairly basic things I just missed!  If I'm wasting my time in Illustrator and should take to photo shop for this adjustment though I will.  I'm just hoping to build my skillset within illustrator as I tackle this project.

    Thanks!
