Adjust one handle on an anchor

I have a path I want to adjust one of the handles at an anchor. I normally would have just selected the anchor point, held ALT, then moved the handle. But when I press the ALT key I get a + and it COPIES the path!!!

This recently started happening. How the heck do I fix this?

If I first hold Alt an then drag the direction handle it works fine.

If I start dragging the selection handle and then press Alt, I get a copy.
