Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this or figured it out yet, but anyway I have been having issues with Illustrator files not opening and saying I need permission from the owner, even though I am the only user and creator of the files. So I had installed illustrator beta a couple of months ago because I like testing new featured and was curious about a couple in the beta. I then started using the beta version for all my work and started to run into the file permissions problem when trying to open older files. Turns out that I cannot open any AIC files that I created with the regular version of Illustrator on the Beta app and vice versa. So although annoying and a waste of space, I have to run the beta app and the regular app so I can open the files when needed.

Be careful with beta apps, they are not meant for production work, but for testing. To make sure you can keep opening your files, I would save them as normal .ai files on your computer. There have been users that posted here that they could not open their files anymore.
