Adobe crashed and reverted file to older version

I've had versions of this happen several times and have never been able to successfully recover my file.

I have an .aic file that I've manually saved many times, and have "published" it to be shared. I was working on the file today when the program crashed, and when I re-opened it had reverted to a version from last week, getting rid of lots of my saved changes. There does not seem to be an option to revert to an older version in the "Version History" tab, and I'm not finding any .aid files. 

Has anyone experienced this? I otherwise like Adobe Illustrator, but I'm going to have to stop using it if this happens again because I can't keep losing progress this frequently...
