Adobe Illustrator 2017 pattern swatch crashes

Question

I use AI 2017 on a Mac OS X 10.10.3. When I open files with pattern swatches not created by me, it causes Illustrator to crash. Sometimes the files doesn't open at all. If it does open, it crashes when I try to zoom in or out. Does anyone else have this problem? Aside from trying to copy the elements into a new document before it crashes is there anything I can do?

Hi there,

We are very sorry for the inconvenience. If all the files with pattern swatches are crashing I would suggest you to please try resetting preferences for Illustrator and share results:

Close all Adobe applications.

~/Library/Caches

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

~/Library/Preferences

Delete or rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 22 Settings folders.

Launch Illustrator from the creative cloud.
