Question

Adobe Illustrator 2026 "New File" button don't work

I haven't worked in Adobe Illustrator for a while, and suddenly the “new file” button has stopped working. I've tried many things to fix it, but nothing helps. I would like to use the new menu instead of the classic one selected in the preferences. Everything works normally in Adobe Photoshop. I've also tried cleaning the AI files and reinstalling, but nothing has helped.

Hello @robby_6408,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please share more details, such as the exact version of the OS/Illustrator installed, and a brief screen recording of the problem, so we can better assist you? Also, try the following steps and check if they help:

- Close all Adobe applications.

- Rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from the following location:

(Windows) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP

(macOS) Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP

- Relaunch Illustrator

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have the same problem. When I open Illustrator 2026 I have the application open but with no toolbars / tool windows. I can open existing files, then all the tool windows appear. I can edit those files, but the New file and many other options are greyed out. I have tried naming the UXP folder (on Mac) but that did not make a difference. Any suggestions welcome.

Hello @Cascade_Alan,

I'm sorry to hear the suggestions did not help. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps? If the problem persists, try the following steps and share your observations:
