Question

Adobe Illustrator 27.2 crashing repeatedly on PC with Wacom Intuos tablet

No matter what I'm doing, using mostly the pen tool, it seems like every five minutes Ai just decides to crash. It'll recover a little bit sometimes, but I never get the error message that will allow me to open Ai in safe mode. I've checked the version, Adobe CC says it was updated yesterday.

I've restarted the PC. I've rebooted.

I'm also using a Wacom Intuos tablet, and I checked that, there are no updates there either.

I have the latest Nvidia Geforce Driver installed. I don't know what to do from here, and this is driving me up the wall. Do I just wait and hope the next update will fix it?

Hi @kayleep45384584,

It sounds like you're really frustrated with Adobe Illustrator crashing repeatedly, and I totally understand why. This is actually a known issue, and many users have reported experiencing the same problem. The product team is currently investigating the issue.

One thing they have suggested is to check if you have the latest Wacom driver, version 6.4.1-3, installed, as this contains a potential fix for the crashes. If that doesn't work, would you mind confirming your Wacom tablet model?
Also, would you mind trying the new Wacom driver with a prerelease version of Illustrator v27.3.0.616 or newer?

To enroll in the prerelease program, you can follow these steps:
Please click this link (www.adobeprerelease.com/) and go to the "Available Program" section to join the Illustrator prerelease.
Then accept the Prerelease agreement and do the following steps to install the Prerelease v27.3.0.616 or newer:
- Close Illustrator
- Go to the Creative Cloud Desktop app > Prerelease section under apps.
- Click on install.

Please note that installing the prerelease version will not remove your current installation of Illustrator.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hi, thanks for your reply.

After the last update it began to work well enough with fewer crashes, but after the 27.3 update came out today, it's back to crashing every five minutes.

I updated my tablet to the latest driver (according to the wacom search feature) and restarted my computer. My tablet model is the Intuos Pro M PTH-651.

It's hard to say why it crashes, but it seems like every time I use the brush tool with my tablet instead of my mouse it freezes and crashes without saving, and no error message to launch in safe mode. Very frustrating when I have deadlines.

Please let me know what I should do, or if they're still searching for a solution. Thank you so much.

Note: It'll crash even when I'm not using my tablet, so never mind that part I guess.
