Adobe Illustrator 30.1 issues with type and images

Hello,

Having issues today (as is my co-worker) with the new 30.1 build and Illustrator on Mac is having bugs and problems I have not seen since the 1990's, LOL.

  • Cannot adjust text blocks when they are set with type. Only stetches or resizes, does not allow for chaning of the bounding box size.
  • Images that have clipping masks have the same issue. You cannot adjust the bounding box or clipping mask seperately. It stretches and resizes only. You cannot recrop
  • Items grouping to each other without reason. Pretty much that, looks like the OLD bug with .AI, showing up again in 2025

I'm sure there will be posts tonight about this, but thought I'd add my woes into the fray.

And going back to an earlier version, say 29.8.3 on a Mac does not solve it. I'm assuming the bug or corruption get's passed back if opening a current file(s).

Anyone found a work around?

I just helped a coworker today. We're both on 30.0, I don't have issues but she does, testing the same file.

I installed 29.3.1 on her computer and that took care of it...for the time being.

I cannot reproduce those problems. Which Mac OS version do you use?

I suppose you have tried Type > Convert to Area Type

Hi Ton, thanks for the note. The issue I have found is not constant. Pulldown actions/commands work, but it's very frustrated that I no olonger have the control at the artboard level, without having to use pulldowns.

I'm running Sequoia 15.6.1

I use 15.7.2, but have not had any problems.

Things like switching type and accessing clipping masks and contents can all be done with clicking the objects.

Maybe it is time for a Reset:
