Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 - Slow opening and saving files

Nothing works. I've had this problem seemingly for years.

I have tried:

- Cleaned out OOBE

- Cleaned out preferences

- Uninstalled and reinstalled

- Above with the Adobe CC Cleaner

- Removed all printers from the system

- Turned off GPU performance

- Turned off 'compression' and 'PDF compatible file' options

I am on a 2016 MacBook Pro running High Sierra.

I've tried everything that I've found online to stop Illustrator from taking 15-30 seconds to open/save a file and lock up my computer in the process.

To be clear, using Illustrator is absolutely fine. But opening and saving files is tedious to the point where I want to stop offering print design as a service and finally rid myself of Adobe CC. Seemingly Illustrator creates a newly saved file immediately, and then just locks up and thinks for half a minute before continuing.

And what does the most expensive monthly subscription I pay get me? Support on a community forum.

End rant. Begin plea for help.

What is it about finally posting a question that helps you solve the issue yourself?

Noticed that when saving a file:

- File would be saved

- com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist was updated a minute or two later

- File was re-saved straight after

Tried disabling/deleting that file but it didn't fix the issue, instead:

1. Close all files

2. Go to settings

3. Change 'File Handling... > Number of recent files to display' to 0

4. OK, quit and reopen illustrator

5. Instant open/save of files

Sheesh.
