Adobe Illustrator CC won't allow drag and drop of Bitmaps into open file

Hi, I can drag a jpeg, and a RGB tif over the Illustrator CC window from my Mac finder, and once I release it - the image is now placed and linked in my Open Illustrator file.

That is what I want.

But, if I do the same thing with a Tiff file that is in BITMAP mode, then Illustrator opens it as a brand new file, which I don't want.

I upgraded from CS5 and that was not happening that way in CS5.

How can I grad bitmap images from Mac Finder into Illustrator to allow them to place and link in my open Illustrator file?
