Question

Adobe Illustrator CS2: Outline Stroke and Expand Appearance not working

I created an object with a stroke around it and it would be nice to have the stroke become a part of the object. I've tried both Object>Path>Outline Stroke and Object>Expand Appearance and neither of them seem to do anything. It may be because CS2 is such an old version, but if anyone knows of a solution or another way, I would love to hear about it.

You're on the right track. After you Outline Stroke and Expand Appearance, you just need to take one last step. Select the object's fill and stroke and choose Pathfinder > Unite. This will combine them into a single object.

Thank you, but that wasn't quite what I was looking for. Illustrator wasn't even letting me outline the stroke in the first place. It still told me that the stroke around my object was at 20pt and the colored line that shows that you have an object selected was still only around my original object. (I used Illustrator CC throughout the school year, so I knew what was supposed to happen, it just wasn't working on my old CS2 version that I have at home.) I think it may have just been a little glitch because it is now working for me, thank you so much for trying to help me out, though!

You're welcome. I'm glad that it is working for you now.
