Question

Adobe Illustrator "Edit In Photoshop" Command "Cannot Find Associated Application" Error

Hello, I'm working as a designer in an institution that produces personalized products. I constantly use photoshop and illustrator.  Sometimes we need to put photos of our customers into the designs we create in illustrator, and these photos need to be edited in photoshop. After I put the photo into Illustrator, the "Edit In Photoshop" button, which I always use, gives an error saying "Cannot find associated application".

I searched the forums for the solution many times but I can't find.

I tried other people's solutions, I write what I tried below;

Uninstall Photoshop and reinstall (Older versions and newer versions include Betas)

Uninstall Illustrator and reinstall (same as Photoshop)

Reset preferences in Illustrator and Photoshop

Search error message in Google (No one has shared anything about this)

Search error message box in Google Photos (No one has shared anything about this)

Search YouTube solutions (no solution)

By the way, it works fine on the company computer, but I can never solve it on my home computer, sometimes I work at home

Versions of the programs I use and tried to solve

Photoshop 25.1-25.0-Beta

Illustrator 28.0-27.9-Beta

You can try either way to fix this issue:

(1) Run your Illustrator as administrator

or

(2) Right-click to your Photoshop.exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > Change settings for all users > uncheck Run this program as administrator

Hello @shumt64959970,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind running Illustrator as an Administrator (https://adobe.ly/4fCGh43) to see if it helps resolve the problem?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @Hadoop34863614hnve,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, a sample file (https://adobe.ly/42k8jf3), and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/3vIjyla), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Did you already try and re-assign the newly installed Photoshop to the filetype PSD in Windows?

You might want to contact Customer Care so they can assist you with that issue:

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

you're welcome. (and your issue is common. if you check the illustrator forum you'll see exactly this issue.)
