Adobe Illustrator File Recovery Help Needed - Damaged File Not Fully Recovering

Hello Adobe Community,

I am facing an issue with an Adobe Illustrator (.ai) file that is showing an error message when I try to open it. The message says:

"Illustrator could partially read this file. We recovered as much of the file as possible, but some content might be missing."

I have tried several solutions, including:

Opening the file in Adobe Illustrator and checking layers.

Resaving the file with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option checked.

Trying to open the file in other vector editing programs like Inkscape.

Attempting to use third-party recovery tools.

Despite these attempts, the file opens to a blank page, and the content seems to be missing.

Could you please help me understand:

1. What might be causing this issue?

2. How I can fully recover the file, or at least recover most of the content?

3. What steps can I follow in the future to prevent this from happening again? Are there any best practices for saving and handling Illustrator files?

I have attached the damaged file for reference. I would really appreciate any guidance or tips on how to fix this and avoid similar problems in the future.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Did Illustrator crash or are you just opening a file that should have been saved normally?

In any case: When this has already happened, first make a copy of the file, then try your recovery methods.

Opening such a file in Inkscape or Affinity Designer will not do much (unless it's an SVG).

If you want to access the PDF part of the file, create a new file in Illustrator and place the corrupt file in it. If this fails, then opening it in any other program will not help either.

Upload the file to this forum, so that the Illustrator team can take a look at it. They will try, but do not put too much hope into it.

To prevent this in the future:

1. Make backups. Lots of them. Save often and save copies.

2. Turn off "Save in background" in the Illustrator preferences.

3. Don't save or open directly from networks.

4. If possible, stay away from synchronized folders

5. Use Time Machine or similar on your computer.

6. Turn on the Recovery in Illustrator. Do not ever rely on it alone.

And above all: if Illustrator is not running reliably, solve that first.
