Adobe Illustrator Freezing and Lagging on High-End PC with RTX 4060 Ti and 64GB RAM Even on Blank Files

I just installed Illustrator on a fresh Windows 11 setup. All my drivers are up to date. Despite having an RTX 4060 Ti (16GB VRAM) and 64GB RAM, the performance is abysmal. Even on a blank A4 document, the screen freezes every second while scrolling. It's a clean install with no custom fonts or heavy background apps running.

If I'm experiencing these issues on a system like this, what kind of setup am I even supposed to have? Furthermore, Adobe Illustrator correctly recognizes my graphics card in the performance settings, yet the lag persists. The software is performing like garbage on a rig that should easily handle it.

Yes, after opening this topic, I disabled the GPU Performance option and restarted, and my issue was resolved. Thank you for your comments. (Though I still don’t understand why such an option exists if it doesn’t work.) :)

That solution would point to a faulty graphics board driver. Is your computer running the Game Ready Driver or the Studio Driver? My computers both at work and home aren't experiencing any problems with Illustrator. They have the latest Studio driver installed (version 595.79, released March 10).

What are the other hardware details in the system (such as CPU type, etc.)? Normally a system with a NVidia graphics board and 64GB of RAM should operate just fine. Are any peripherals attached, such as a Wacom tablet? Are the mouse and/or keyboard connected via a wireless transmitter? The kind of system hangs and freezes you describe sound like a hardware conflict.

Hi @Batu Tekin,

I understand how frustrating this must be, sorry that you're running into this, especially on a setup that should handle Illustrator smoothly. Thanks for sharing the details.

Could you please confirm the exact Illustrator version you're currently using? The latest version is 30.3 available via the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app, so it would be good to check if you're on that build.

To help isolate this further, I'd recommend testing the behavior in Windows Safe Mode to rule out any interference from third party apps or background services. You can follow this guide:

Also, please try creating a new local admin user account and test Illustrator there to check if this could be related to your current user profile:

If the issue still persists, please try resetting Illustrator preferences manually by following this video:

You can also try toggling the GPU Performance option in Illustrator Preferences and see if that makes any difference with the freezing while scrolling.

Additionally, please install the latest NVIDIA Studio driver and check if that improves performance.

Also, I'd recommend going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this crash-related article and see if that helps:

Let me know how it goes after trying these, and I’ll be happy to assist further based on your update.
