Adobe Illustrator get to know illustrator will not load adobe source files

It grays out when I click on file open to open adobe source files for this tutorial, screen grays out and red x up in right corner lights up. When I press it eventually I get a windows box about hoe Adobe Illustrator is not responding and I can do nothing or force it to close. Letting it wait as long as 15 actual timed with a cell phone does not fix it. And yes I started Illustrator on the Adobe button ad it says all my apps are up to date before I even loaded Illustrator and I even loaded the Adobe source files for this tutorial again before starting the last 3 times. I turn off everything else. If I check Gmail Utube all function fine.
