Question

Adobe Illustrator keeps crashing

Hello!

I have been having an issue with Adobe Illustrator crashing consistently (now to the point of not even being able to open - "application not responding") due to overuse of CPU? I have done a number of things to try and mitigate this issue to no avail:

Force-quit Adobe Content Synchronizer

Updated Mac OS to the latest version (Ventura 13.3.1)

Installed the latest version of Illustrator (27.4.1)

Uninstalled all plug-ins (Astute Graphics)

Uninstalled Adobe Creative Cloud

Ran the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner

Reinstalled Adobe CC

So far, the only thing that seems to be working is downgrading to an older version of Adobe Illustrator, which seems to be working to some degree (incredibly slow). However, if I re-install the Astute Graphics plug-in (even just one or two), Illustrator refuses to open (application not responding).

Would love some help!

Hello @MaggieEileen,

We understand how frustrating it can be to experience crashes. If you're using a Wacom Tablet, we recommend trying an older version of the driver (6.3.46-2) to see if it resolves the issue. Also, if you have any Antivirus software enabled, kindly try adding the Adobe applications to the exclusion list or disabling the Antivirus software temporarily to check if it helps.

If not, please follow the steps in this help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/fix-crash-on-launch-issues.html) and let us know your observations. Also, kindly share the crash report using the steps in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/crash-next-steps.html) and use the same email account as your community account for quick tracking. We appreciate your time and efforts in resolving this issue.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Anubhav

Has anyone reported issues with Adobe Illustrator (or other Adobe applications) and the current Wacom 6.4.1-2 driver for OSX 10.15-13 released on Feb 28? As far as I can tell the big problem regarding Wacom tablets involves the Windows driver. Both driver releases for Windows earlier in January cause Illustrator to crash; the November 2022 driver (6.4.0-11) is the latest relatively stable driver for Windows.

Did your installation of Adobe Illustrator just start behaving badly recently, or has it always been running badly? I'm wondering since you said the previous version runs slowly. What are your computer system specs?

Honestly, I have had almost no issue with Illustrator prior to yesterday (minus a few crashes here and there throughout the years), which is why I don't understand what is going on. I am inclined to believe it's the Astute Graphics Plug-in causing all of these issues, but I haven't seen anyone else experiencing the same issue I have.

Are the Astute Graphics plugins new via their subscription program or are they older "perpetual" plugins bought one at a time? If they're older plugins there could be compatibility issues with newer versions of Adobe Illustrator. I don't understand why, but over the years a lot of their plugins have had to be updated to maintain compatibility with Illustrator. Some of the plugins, such as Texturino, can be pretty demanding on a computer system. It really helps to have a fast CPU and a whole lot of RAM.
