Question

Adobe Illustrator keeps crashing randomly and shows a crash report message

Over the last 3 days, the application has crashed about 5 times.

The crash happens in different situations:
– when using the Shape tool
– when picking a color with the Eyedropper tool
– sometimes even when I am not doing anything

Before each crash, the program works normally, without freezes or heavy load.

Additional information:
– the application is updated to the latest version
– my subscription is active
– GPU drivers are up to date
– there is enough free disk space on my laptop
– I did not have this problem before

The crashes seem to happen at random and are not related to one specific action.

Could you please advise how I can diagnose the cause and fix this issue?

    Hi @smart_epicness5FF3,

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry you’re running into these crashes. I appreciate your patience while we look into this.

I was able to locate your crash report and have shared it with the product team for deeper analysis to understand what’s triggering the behavior. I’ll update you as soon as I have more information from them.

In the meantime, please go through the steps in the following article and update if any step helps:

Let me know how it goes. I’ll keep you posted on the findings from the crash log review as well.

    Hi @smart_epicness5FF3,

Thank you for your patience while I checked this with the team. The product team reviewed the crash logs and found that one of the crash reports points to a PlanetX plugin crash, while the other appears to be a general catch-all crash.

To help isolate this further, please try launching your system in Safe Mode and test Illustrator there. This will help determine if any third-party plugin or background service is causing the issue. You can follow the steps here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234

If the app works fine in Safe Mode, please try disabling or removing any third-party plugins (especially PlanetX if installed), then relaunch Illustrator normally and test again. Also ensure Illustrator is running without additional plugins or scripts enabled.

Please let me know how it goes after trying this, and I’ll be happy to assist further.

    Abhishek
