Adobe Illustrator Lagging and dragging issue on MacOS

Hello, 

I’m extremely frustrated with AI. Every time I try to click to select a path, the system recognizes my drag gesture instead.

This issue occurs consistently, and it takes two seconds for the system to respond to my click, regardless of the path I’m selecting. Please note that this is not a hardware problem, as I’m running the software on a new MacBook M4 Pro with 24GB of RAM. The problem happens on every type of path.

Could someone please help me resolve this issue, as it’s significantly slowing down my work? Thank you.
