Question

Adobe Illustrator on Mac Studio slower than on an 2017 iMac

A customer of mine upgraded from an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) with 24 GB RAM and a 8 GB Radeon Pro 580, to a new Mac Studio with a 24 core Apple M2 Ultra and 64 GB RAM.

This customer works with large Adove Illustrator files with many layers (arnoud 2k). The new Mac Studio is noticeably slower than the 2017 iMac. Drawing new shapes is slow, removing (back-spacing) text has a delay of around 4 seconds per character.

Here is a movie showing the delays (text in Dutch I'm afraid, Dropbox link):

Why is this brand new state-of-the-art Mac Studio slower here? Is there anything that can be done to speed things up?

Hello @Ernst Mulder,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind trying the suggestions shared in this help article (https://adobe.ly/3OZocly) and checking if it helps? Also, try to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

If the problem persists, kindly share more details, like the exact version of the Illustrator and a sample file (https://adobe.ly/3OVaLCT), so we can investigate this further.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hello @Anubhav M,

Thanks for responding, Anubhav. I will contact my customer to try your suggested options. I will also ask my customer if he is willing to share one of his Illustrator files having this issue. Is there any way to send such a file privately? Or is it better to call Adobe directly so they can have a look themselves?
