Hello fellow Adobe community, I don't normally post, but I do search regularly on these forums for help finding answers/solutions. Since I had a hard time finding the answer to this, and took me awhile to figure out, as I struggle with the math side of my brain. Time for me to give back & share my findings & hope this helps others.

When given a vehicle template or architecture plans that have a scale ratio, and you need to scale it back up to size with illustrators scale tool & have to figure out what percent to scale it up. Or you are scaling something down with illustrator & need to note it in your plans but unsure of the proper ratio term for the percentage you used to scale it down. Here is the answer.

1:10 - 10% scale down - 1000% scale up

1:2 - 50% scale down - 200% scale up

3:20 - 15% scale down - 666.67% scale up

1:5 - 20% scale down - 500%scale up

1:4- - 25% scale down - 400% scale up

3:10 - 30% scale down - 333.33% scale up

2:5 - 40% scale down - 250% scale up

3:5 - 60% scale down - 166.67% scale up

7:10 - 70% scale down - 142.86% scale up

3:4 - 75% scale down - 133.33% scale up

4:5 - 80% scale down - 125% scale up

9:10 - 90% scale down - 111.11% scale up

Enjoy!

Hi there,

This information has been very helpful with my work. Do you have a formular I could use? I need the 0.5 scales; 35, 45, 55 etc.  Or are you able to complete it?

Jason,

You can just leave it to Illy (job description Adobe Illustrator) and get it accurate rather than approximate; she is always very friendly and eager to help.

Presuming you mean % values as in 35%, you can either:

A) Use the Transform palette and divide the W or H value by the corresponding decimal number, such as 0.35 for 35%, just insert /0.35 after the actual number in the box so the box reads [current value]/0.35, then hold Ctrl/Cmd and press Enter;

B) Use the Object>Transform>Scale and insert the same value as in A) after the default 100 in the Uniform box, such as 0.35 for 35%, just insert /0.35 so the box reads 100/0.35, then press Enter.

You tried to use the transform command.
Object > Transform > Scale
Right Click the object and Transform> Scale. It is working as a percentage from the existing object state.
