Adobe Illustrator Selection Tool

Hi there, I updated my Adobe IL last week and since then I've noticed that I have some trouble with the selection tool: whenever I click on it, it doesn't display the selection path/points that I want to use and refine the shape. Instead it moves the shape around or just displays the transform/scale box ???? It's pretty frustrating, I tried to change settings in the preferences box but nothing helped. Anyone?

View> Show bounding box?

If I'm reading correctly, it seems that you are using the Selection Tool (black pointer) which selects the path as a whole and, when Show Bounding Box (which includes the transform handles) is selected in the View menu, does just that. If you want to select and move points, use the Direct Selection Tool (white pointer).
