Question

Adobe Library palette keeps freezing

When I'm working in a file and have my Library palette open, things are good for about 5-10min. Then the Library palette freezes and I can't open or close any of the folders I have in the Library. Same thing happens if I close a file and then reopen any file after about 5-10min.

I have reset preferences, signed out and back in the cloud, and uninstalled and reinstalled the app. This also is happening with Photoshop but I'm more concerened with Illustrator since I use that every day.

Can anyone help me with this situation - it started about a week ago. Thank you!

Also experience this & fed up of it! The workarounds are tedious and only help momentarily. Please fix, adobe!

I know this is an Illustrator thread, but the same thing has been happening to me in both Illustrator and Photoshop for months. Is there a solution in development?

To everyone in this post who is dealing with the same issue, I have found a temporary solution.

  1. Go to the top of your monitor and click on the Adobe CC icon.
  2.  Go to Files in the left bar
  3.  Go to Your Libraries and find yours
  4.  Now you can double-click on any vector file in the library and it will open in Illustrator.
  5.  Unfortunately, you can't do much with the color swatches, so I built my own .ase swatch files and put that in the program presets.

It's not the same as using the Library palette within your apps but it sure beats quitting and restarting your application every 5-10 minutes. Good luck to all, hope this helps for now.

I'm also having the same problem - for months now. My library freezes and I can't switch out of it without completely quitting illustrator and going back in. I've even contacted live support which did not help at all. I've uninstalled through creative cloud and reinstalled. I'm using version 30 on macOS Sequoia 15.6.1

I have also recently lost the ability to do some of the keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator only like increase or decrease font size, traking and kerning - all type shortcuts! All the same shortcuts on Mac work in Photoshop and InDesign. It's getting more and more buggy.

You can change the settings in your Type Preferences back to the default values.

Size/Leading: 2 pt

Tracking: 20

Baseline Shift: 2 pt

Yes, that is exactly what I am experiencing. I've been using Adobe for 30 years and I live by shortcuts. It's horrible to lose what you have trained your memory to do. Ugh.

I am also having this issue.  Illustrator 29.7.1 / Creative Cloud 6.7.0.278 / MacOS Sequoia 15.6.1

Tried the troubleshooting steps as illustrated in other posts.  No change.  Library refreshes when application is closed and reopened.

I think it's actually the UI that stops updating and loses sync with the actual controls underneath.  Through clicking around the frozen interface I've managed to navigate to an entirely different library, select, and place an asset all without the UI updating visually.

I am having the same issue as well and have been for the past few months. Same issue as everyone else... can only resolve the issue by "quitting" illutrator and reopening. I have to do this for every new project I start. I have tried all of the trouble shooting  steps that have been listed on this thread with no solution.

MacOS = Sequioa 15.6 (but happened on previous versions as well)
Illustrator = 29.7.1 (and also happened on previous versions)

Hi kara.taylor

We are sorry for the frustration. Would you mind telling us if this is happening with a specific library asset or a particular file?

Please also try the following steps, and let us know if it helps:
  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Remove the Creative Cloud Desktop application, CCLibrary, and CoreSync using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (https://adobe.ly/47krgml)
  • Reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application (https://adobe.ly/47as7G3)
  • Relaunch Illustrator

We will be happy to assist you further.

Thanks,

Harshika

I had already tried all of those steps.

It's not a specific library asset... its like the libaray window freezes and you can't use it properly... I have noticed the same issue with the Pantone Connect window as well, but it doesn't happen as often.

It's not happening with a specific file either. If I open illustrator, work on a file and save it, then close illustrator... any file I open after that is when the issue happens. The library work perfectly on that initial open, but after that it freezes. I can't scroll the window, but it still allows me to drag and drop assets, so the window is still active. It's just that the display is frozen.

Here is a video of the issues i have:

I'm having this same issue. I've run the cleaner app and rebuilt everything, but after awhile the libraries palette stops working. Also, I've found when I pull the palette out and resize it, it acts like an image rather than a window. (See attached image)

Same here
Mac OS sequoia 15.6
Illustrator 29.5
I don't have time to reinstall the entire adobe ecosystem, I'll keep restarting illustrator while reminding myself we're spending something less than a thousand euros per year for this kind of bugs (I'm experiencing it since march/april)

I'm also having the same problem. Only started after upgrading to Mac OS Sequoia 15.5 yesterday, everything was fine before that. I am running Illustrator 29.5.1. Mac Studio M1 Max with 64GB RAM. No antivirus or firewall. Library window opens and assets are visible but I can't scroll the window, navigate through libraries or select an asset. This is a massive problem as I use them continuously all day! Please can you help?

I should also have included that my version of Creative Cloud is 6.7.0.278.

Hi diatomdeb,

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry for the trouble. Would you mind updating the Illustrator version to the current version, i.e., 29.6.1, and let us know if that resolves the issue?

We will be happy to assist you further.

Thanks,

Harshika
