Adobe PDF Presets issue in latest release of Illustrator

Mac OS Ventura 13.4 / Illustrator 27.9

On the latest release of Illustrator, I've noticed my custom PDF presets are changing every time I open a file and utilize them.

Case in point: I opened a file, selected a PDF preset that I created where "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" is DEselected. What I'm doing is saving a copy of the file with a bleed, and don't want the editing capabilities since it tends to make the file quite large. When I go in to edit my presets to check it, it is already DEselected, just as I had created it, but when I try to save using the preset, this option is SELECTED when I choose my preset. I've tried changing it again and again, with the same result. Not sure what is happening. See images of preset according to the edit screen and the present when selected to save as PDF.

Also having this problem. REALLY don't want to reset my preferences, as users before me stated that it did not fix their issue. I do not want to loose all my preferences for a non-fix.

Please provide a proven resolution to this bug. It is causing me a lot of extra work to save and re-save things over and over. Especially when link locations are changed and I have saved the file under the impression that links should be embedded based on my SAVED PREFERENCES.

Hello @shelbyg,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, since when did you start having this problem (was it after a recent update/ software change, etc.) and a screen recording of your workflow and the problem (https://adobe.ly/4aVGxrA), so we can check this with the product team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

I'm having the exact same issue and it's sooo frustrating. I go into the PDF presets and change the setting but it just changes back!

I can confirm I am having the same issue. It's sporadic, with no rhyme or reason. Will work fine, then not, and back to fine. All in the span of an hour. Makes absolutely no sense but has caused me to resave files a number of times.

MacOS Monterey 12.5.1, Illustrator 28.0. Unable to update MacOS due to company restrictions.

Thanks for posting this! I have not heard a word back from support on this issue. They said they can't replicate the problem on their end so I guess they just chose to ignore it. I hope more people report this so they do something about it!

I can also confirm that my coworker who shares my account is having the same issue after updating.  Thankfully it's not a make or break for us, but it is incredibly inconvenient. I hope there's a response soon!

Hello @Garrett Printing,

Sorry to hear about this experience. I was unable to replicate this on my end. Would you mind trying to manually reset Illustrator's preferences and checking if it helps:

For macOS

• Close all Adobe applications.

• Go to the following locations

• ~/Library/Caches

• ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

• ~/Library/Preferences

• Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings.old

• Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Note: Location starting with this "~" sign indicates the User Library, which is hidden. So, you need to copy & paste the exact path in spotlight search or from Finder Menu > Go > Go to Folder > Paste the location in the dialog box like this:

For Windows

- Close all Adobe applications.

- Go to Location C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe

- Rename Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator - 28 Settings.old

- Relaunch Illustrator from Creative Cloud

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

It worked at first, but then I opened a new file and saved as and selected one of the ones I created and it's doing the same exact thing.
