After saving AI file - immediately save as PDF and get this error. "The save file operation failed"

After saving AI file - immediately save as PDF and get this error: "The save file operation failed".

Eventually it saves.  But what concerns me is sometimes I discover that my AI file never saved, but the PDF did. I thought maybe i was saving my PDF before the AI file finished saving, but sometimes I get the error after closing and opening the AI file after saving it.

 

Any suggestions?

    Which version, which system?

    Exactly where do you save files?

    Any third party plugins installed?

    Does it work better when you turn off background saving in the Preferences?

      Hi Monika, Thanks for checking in!

      iMac 2019

      Catalina 10.15.5

      No third party plugins

      Files are all saved in my Creative Cloud Files folder

      I just turned off background saving and will see if that works.
