AI brush strokes. Pressure stroke

I am using AI. When I set the brush stroke to "presure" it works on my Wacom tablet. But when I go to my artwork all I get is a solid line without varying thickness. How do I fix that? On my artwork page I have set the pen to "pressure" but to no avail. Please advise.
