Question

AI CC 2018 22.1 - "There is not enough memory available to process the appearance of an object."

I've searched the Forums for this problem, which is common with older versions of Illustrator, but they lead me to no answers other than "reset the prefs," which I've done to no avail.

Problem:

Every time I launch Illustrator CC 2018 (v. 22.1) on macOS Sierra (v. 10.12.6) with 16 GB of RAM and 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Intel Iris graphics card with 1536 MB of graphics RAM, I'm greeted with the error message "There is not enough memory available to process the appearance of an object."

Every time I open a document created in that version of Illustrator or a previous version of Illustrator I'm greeted with the message "There is not enough memory available to process the appearance of an object."

Additional Detail:

GPU Performance is disabled in Preferences.

Primary Scratch Disk is set to Startup volume HDD with 1 TB of free space.

Second Scratch Disk is set to external USB HDD with 1.4 TB of free space.

Problem described above has persisted for at least 2 months (no more accurate time frame possible).

Hi Pariah, does this happen on a new simple document you create, and try to open? Are you able to use illustrator after seeing this error? Do you have any 3rd party plugins that affect Illustrator or the OS eg: wacom driver?

Did you try these methods which are more aggressive and recommend for this

More thorough Reset your preferences.

Quit Illustrator

Finder >> Shift Command G

~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 22 Settings/en_US*/Adobe Illustrator Prefs

rename Adobe Illustrator 19 to Adobe Illustrator 22 old

Reset your other preferences
Quit Illustrator

Finder >> Shift Command G

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 22/

rename Adobe Illustrator 2 to Adobe Illustrator 22 old

i've only seen this with the 3D effect at my end, and colleagues with the exact same setup don't seem to suffer from it, so i don't know how to diagnose. so you see this even with no document open? there should be no object to process!
